Margaret Bennett

Margaret Lucile Kynett Bennett, 94 of Lisbon, died Monday, March 8, 2004 at the Hiawatha Care Center, from complications of a stroke. Funeral services for Margaret will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church where friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the church. Margaret will be buried at the Lisbon Cemetery. Margaret is survived by a daughter Jean Ardis Claflin of Cedar Rapids; two sons: Wayne (Janet) of Lisbon, and Richard (Jan) of Mechanicsville, a daughter-in-law Jo Bennett of Tipton; sixteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Bueta Bennett Gray of La Crescenta, California, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Margaret in death were: her husband Audis who died in 1984, a son Willard who died in 1998, a grandson Keith who died in 1981, a brother Lawrence Kynett who died in 1997, son-in-law Bruce Claflin who died in 2001, and a pen pal of 80 years, Betty Bailey, of Newcastle-u-Lyme, England. She died in 2003. Margaret was born January 29, 1910, at the Kynett family home in Lisbon, the youngest of two children born to W. Lee and Mabel Hoover Kynett. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1927, and attended the Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls. Margaret married D. Audis Bennett at her parents home on December 11, 1929. D. Audis and Margaret farmed most of their married lives in the Lisbon, Amana, and Fairfax areas. She worked at Armstrong's Department Store for fifteen years. Margaret was a member of United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served on several committees. She was a life time member of the Evangeline Chapter, #393 Order of Eastern Star of Mechanicsville, the Cultus Club in Lisbon, Lisbon Candlelighters Club, and Willing Worker's Quilting Group in Lisbon. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls and the Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She was a descendent of one of the original families of Lisbon and spent many hours researching town history. Margaret was a great lady and will be missed by her big family and many friends.
