Manard Barrett

Manard D. Barrett 73 of Mount Vernon died Sunday February 6, 2005 at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from a long illness. Services 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by the Reverend Emory Gillespie. Burial Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the chapel. Surviving Manard are his wife of 55 years, Pat at home, two sons; Rick (Linda) of Mount Vernon and Bob (Joan) of Reno, Nevada, and a sister Leota Cihla of Mount Vernon, four grandchildren: Dawn and Devon Barrett, (Cheryl and Kenneth), Zachary and Jacob, and a great grandson Zachary. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceding Manard in death were his parents, one brother Harlan and a sister Ramona Boxwell, and an infant daughter Deborah. Manard was born July 12, 1931, the son of Emory and Roxy Noah Barrett. He graduated from high school. He married Pat Myers, July 24, 1949, at the United Methodist Church at Marion. He retired after 38-years for the Iowa Department of Transportation, Marion Shop, in October of 1993. He served with the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department for fifteen years. Manard never missed Tuesday night playing cards at the Dougout. He loved to spend his free time fishing and camping. Manard was never happier than when he was with his family.
