Zenaido Rodriguez

Zenaido Rodriguez, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Sunday, November 27, 2011, surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his sons, Mario (Elia) Rodriguez of Longview, Texas, Jesse (Debra) Rodriguez and Nicholas Rodriguez (Katie Freymark), both of Cedar Rapids; his daughters, Victoria (Ferdinand) Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Paula (Don) Hartman of Sedalia, Missouri, Paulette (Mark) Drew, Alicia Rodriguez, both of Cedar Rapids, and Teresa (Scott) Walton of Anamosa; a sister, Teresa (Jose) Cabrera of El Centro, California; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a longtime amigo, Virgil Facion of Cedar Rapids. Zenaido was born July 29, 1928, in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico, the son of Jesse and Cruz (Ayala) Rodriguez. On August 10, 1953, he married Eva Arenas in Iowa City. Zenaido worked 40 years for Penick & Ford. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and enjoyed playing bingo. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Zenaido was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva; and a brother, Juan Rodriguez. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or St. Luke's Hospice. A special thank you to Dr. Yacoub, St. Luke's Hospital, Continuing Care Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospice for the care and compassion provided to Zenaido during these last few weeks and months.

  12. I work at St. Luke’s hospital in the X-Ray department and had the opportunity to meet Mr. Rodriguez. Any time I was called to Mr. Rodriguez’s room, I was happy to go. Even though he was obviously in discomfort, Rod had a smile for me, and so made me smile to see him. I hardly got to know him at all, but I have the sense that this man is a great man and will be deeply missed. I pray for your family, and I know Mr. Rodriguez has a special place in heaven.
