Thomas Patrick Carney, 61, of Springville, died January 14, 2009, at home following a sudden illness. There will be no services. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include two brothers, Kevin Carney and Colin Carney, both of Cedar Rapids.

I think of Tom often and for the first time decided to google his name. I was very saddened to find that he had passed away in 2009. I went to high school with Tom at Jefferson and kept in touch for many years even though I left CR in 1967. I remember sitting in his room upstairs listening to Jimmy Hendrix and cherish several photos that were sent when he was in the service and a letter with him telling my husband that he had better take good care of me or he would have to answer to Tom. I think Tom would have been pleased to know that Bob has been good to me for 44 years now. I know this is rather a late signing but he was a terrfic person (having to deal with the other Tom Carney’s was not easy). Everyone who knew him will have lost a bit of themselves with his passing.
