Sandy Bockes

January 3, 1944 ~ April 1, 2026

Sandy Bockes, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. passed peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Although born as LaVerne Kathleen Heiberger in Dubuque, Iowa, she chose to go by Sandy – a better reflection of the spirited, independent woman so many came to know.  It was a fitting choice for someone who lived life on her own terms: strong-willed, deeply genuine, with a pinch of spice and a splash of Diet Coke.

Sandy lived a life rooted in faith, family and quiet service to others. For over 30 years, she worked at cleaning homes. She took pride in her work and was known for her reliability, attention to detail and the care she brought into every family home, treating it like her very own.  Later on, she would also work as a teacher’s aide and a CMA, roles that reflected her natural compassion.

Above all, Sandy was a devoted sister, wife, mother and grandmother.  She shared 59 years of marriage with Joseph, building a life centered on love, resilience, and unwavering commitment.  Together, they raised a family that remains her greatest legacy.

Those who knew Sandy best will remember the generous love she expressed in all the little things she did, especially the making of her holiday treats.  They have also come to thoroughly understand her three P’s: Patience, Persistence and Properly (IYKYK 🙂)!

Sandy will be remembered by her five children, Charles (Teresa) Bockes, Stacey Lahr, Scott Bockes, Shawn (Melinda) Bockes and Heidi Kirsch and nine grandchildren, as well as her sister, Elizabeth.  She was also most fond of her last spoiled fur baby, Chester, and her seven other grandpuppies.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her brother, Albert; her sisters, Mary and Patricia; and her daughter, Michelle.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, Sandy trusted in God through all seasons of life.  Her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her loved ones and held in the peaceful arms of Christ.  Sandy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
