Philip “Ike” Isaac Schneider, 74, of Robins, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, from complications of a stroke. Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4 at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral: 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 5, at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery.
Ike was born on February 13, 1952, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Philip “Blackie” and Helen (Marsh) Schneider. He was united in marriage to Carla Jesse on June 15, 2002.
Ike served in the United States Airforce from 1972-1974. He was a member of the Marion American Legion Post 298. His love of country ran deep and never faltered, even in complicated times.
Ike was a good guy. He was the guy you wanted behind you if you broke down on the road, because he would always stop to help. Once, he even rebuilt a carburetor for a stranger on the side of the highway.
When there was a job to be done, he was usually the first to arrive and the last to leave. He never shied away from anything, from building a garage or fixing a toilet to throwing in an extra load of laundry or emptying the dishwasher. He used that passion for over 30 years serving in the maintenance department at Tanager Place and Camp Tanager. He loved being part of a team that made a difference for children.
His perfect day would have included a little time in his wood shop, a win for the Hawkeyes, a top sirloin sizzling from the grill and a cold one in his hand. That day would have finished by calling in barred owls around a campfire with his family.
He had a big laugh and loved a naughty turn in a good joke. His big baritone voice would belt out camp songs, hymns and classic rock. But it softened to croon out lullabies and love songs.
The biggest thing he did was love. He loved his family, working hard to provide everything they needed and wanted. He told his wife he loved her every single day. When she returned the sentiment his eyes twinkled as he said, “But I loved you first.”
He loved his children. He could never say no to a request for candy at the movie store or ice cream on the way home. He was always ready to build something with Legos or play Pretty, Pretty Princess. Those same strong arms that provided for them held them gently as he rocked them to sleep.
Ike is survived by his wife, Carla Jesse; children, Olivia Schneider and Isaac Schneider; sister, Robin Caryl; and many cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dixon Caryl.
Memorials may be made to the family education fund in care of Carla Jesse, Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, or Camp Tanager.
