Patricia was born on October 11, 1939, in Anamosa, to Merle Knapp and Florence (O’Deen) Knapp. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1957 and went on to dedicate much of her life to caring for others and supporting her family. Patricia worked as a secretary, a homemaker, and later spent 18 years working for Area Ambulance. She was also proud to serve for many years as an EMT with the Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance Service.
On October 2, 1993, Patricia married the love of her life, Paul Herboldsheimer, at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. Together they built a life filled with laughter, family, adventures, and cherished memories.
Patricia was known for being loving, caring, and protective. She loved to laugh, have fun, travel, and experience new places. Some of her happiest moments were spent camping with family, boating, enjoying time at their Lake Delhi cabin, and traveling to Apache Junction, Arizona. She especially treasured attending her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. She never missed an opportunity to talk dirt track racing with family.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting, and making Christmas cookies using the treasured recipe book she created for her children. Patricia was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the center of her world.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Paul Herboldsheimer; children, Scott (Penni) Arnold, Jodi (Enrique Jr.) Gomez, Kari (Greg) Traver, and David (Amber) Herboldsheimer; grandchildren, Jenna Arnold, Lauren (John) Thomas, Chris (Courtney) Heidemann, Kelsey Rickard, Eriq Gomez, Ethan Gomez, Emily Gomez, Elisa Gomez, Faith (Alex) Gutierrez, Chloe Traver, Hudson Herboldsheimer, and Jamison Herboldsheimer; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Bentley, Alex, Jackson, and Ainsley; sister-in-law, Gloria Krob; and special family members, John McDowell and Dave Heidemann.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lynn McDowell; son, Larry Arnold at birth; sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Bill Wieben; and numerous members of the O’Deen and Knapp families.
Patricia will be remembered for her warmth, sense of humor, unwavering love for her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her memory will live on in the traditions, recipes, stories, and laughter shared by all who loved her.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for later designation to a charity.
