Michael “Mick” Boots, 79, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on July 11, 2026, at Colonial Manor, Amana, Iowa. Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Iowa. A reception will follow at Whitey’s Bar and Grill in Lisbon.
Mick was born August 31, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son to William (Nadine) and Betty (Danly) Boots. Mick grew up in Mechanicsville, Iowa, and graduated from Lincoln High School. Mick proudly served in the Navy, worked as a carpenter, bar owner, and factory worker; during each phase of life Mick made many lifelong friends.
Mick enjoyed visiting with friends and family, driving and sightseeing, working on puzzles, relaxing with Angus (granddog), and attending his grandkid’s events.
Mick is survived by his son, Nick (Sarah) Boots; grandchildren, Riley, Tiernan, and Brogan Boots; siblings, Phil (Bev) Boots, Randy (Sandy) Boots, and Brian (Bobbie).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved sister, Susie; and baby brother, Douglas.

Back in the day my parents Harry and Joy Gaarde of Mount Vernon were close friends with Bill and Betty. We would go to their house in McVille and they would come to ours in Mt. Vernon. I think it was Bill that my dad worked with on the idea of developing a “window winder” which was a motor and control for semi trucks that would allow the trucker to roll the passenger side windows up and down from the driver’s seat. In those days all vehicle windows had manual cranks on both sides of the cab. I remember assembling parts of those things in the living room of our house in MV. Obviously it was a great idea, as subsequent times have proven. Bill made a prototype of the “window winder” and I don’t know why my dad and Bill didn’t pursue the idea. Probably required an initial investment that was just too expensive. I was good friends with Susie Boots, too. Mick was the cool guy five years older. I also remember Randy. Anyway, my sympathies to you all.
