Margaret A. Brown

Margaret Abagail Brown, 90, of Marion formerly of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, in her home. The funeral service for Margaret is 2:30 p.m., Saturday at Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, rural Mount Vernon by the Reverend Karen Downey-Beals. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Linn Grove Cemetery. Margaret is survived by a son Terry (Karen) Evans of Springville; a daughter-in-law Susan Fisher of Mount Vernon; a son David (Fumiko) Brown; two daughters Julie (Don) Durst and Kathy (John) Beiting; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a brother Arnold (Mary) Port of Cedar Rapids and a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husbands, and a son David Fisher. Margaret was born April 30, 1918 in Springville, the daughter of DeVer and Frieda Webbena Port. She lived most of her life in eastern Iowa and Mount Vernon. She graduated from Springville High School in 1936 and worked many years in the business department of Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Margaret married Lyle Evans, Arlo Fisher, and Frederick Brown all who passed away. Margaret was a member of the Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, the Linn Grove Ladies Aid, the Red Hatters, and many card clubs. Margaret was young at heart her entire life and was a feisty woman who never complained. She had a unique sense of humor, loved a challenging bridge game and the fine arts. Margaret performed in plays and fashion shows. She was one of a kind, she was beautiful! In lieu of flowers and plants, a memorial fund to the Linn Grove Presbyterian Church, c/o Terry Evans, 505 4th Ave., Springville, IA 52336 has been established.
