Lucile West

Lucile Jane West, 95, Marshalltown, formerly of Mount Vernon, died early Tuesday morning, March 2, 2004 at the Villa del Sol Care Center, Marshalltown, from a long illness. Memorial services will be held in the spring at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Surviving Lucile are two sisters-in-law: Elaine West of Mount Vernon and Katherine West of Madison, Wisconsin, nine nieces and nephews, and twelve great-nieces and nephews. Preceding Lucile in death are her parents, three brothers: Charles Wesley West II, Stephen Ely West, and Richard Clingman West. Lucile Jane West, one of four children, was born October 18, 1908 at Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Bessie Madge Clingman West. She attended country schools in Iowa and graduated from Mount Vernon High School. Lucile attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon and graduated with a Home Economics degree from Iowa State University at Ames. Lucile worked in Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls as a dietician, and in Milwaukee for the Northwestern Insurance Company. She moved to Marshalltown in the late 1940's. Lucile owned Lucile's Yarn Shop and taught weaving at Marshalltown Community College. She retired from the Women's State Reformatory at Mitchellville as a dietician.
