Lloyd H. Whisler

Lloyd H. Whisler, 78 of Lisbon, formerly of Donahue, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009, in Lantern Park Care Center, Coralville. Funeral services 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by Reverend David Ambrosy. Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., in the chapel. Burial in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Big Rock, Iowa with military rites. Surviving Lloyd is his wife Maurita, four children; David (Cindy), Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sue Ellen (Bart) Harmeling, Palmer, Alaska and Okinawa, Japan, Patricia (Curt) Dumolien, Lisbon, and Jane (John) Richards, Palm Desert, California, fourteen grandchildren, and a sister Nanette Schreiber, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents Harold and Ruth Durbin Whisler. Lloyd was born November 25, 1930 in Davenport. He graduated from Central High School, Davenport, in 1949, and graduated from A.I.C., Davenport with a degree in accounting in 1958. Lloyd served with the United States Marine Corps, in Japan, during the Korean War. He was a member of the Donahue American Legion Post #532 and member of the Marine Corps League in Lake Havasu City. He was self- employed as an accountant practitioner and was a member of The Accountants Association of Iowa. Lloyd farmed the Whisler family farm in Donahue until his retirement in 1985. He was the clerk for GMB Auctioneers for many years. Lloyd and Maurita, after their retirement, traveled to wherever their children lived. They especially enjoyed wintering in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, fishing, cooking, and playing cards with their friends. Lloyd will be remembered for his honesty and integrity. Memorials in Lloyd's honor may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, Donahue, Iowa, 52746, or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund, Mount Vernon, Iowa 52314.
