Lee McHenry

Lee O. McHenry 82 of Tipton, formerly of Lisbon, died Tuesday January 11, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, from complications of a stroke. Services 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, by the Reverend Tom Mattson. Burial Lisbon Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call Thursday, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Surviving Lee are two sons: Barry (Carla) of Clarence and Jerry of Cedar Rapids; one daughter Terry (Mike) Hoy of Clarence; four grandchildren: Amy (Jim Yaukovitz McHenry, Becky Hoy, Cheyanne McHenry and John Hoy; a great grandson Ryan Yaukovitz; three cousins: John and Bob Bell, and Maxine Smith; and special friends Bob Dean and the late Bill Kruse. Preceding Lee in death were his parents and his wife Maxine who died at the age of 74 in her Tipton home, Tuesday, August l7, 2004, and a sister Onalee Mason. Lee was born February 5, 1922, in Lisbon, the son of Sherman and Myrtle McHenry. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1939. He served with the U.S. Army Military Police during World War II and was a member of Lisbon American Legion Cyclops Post #109. Lee married Maxine Cave July 30, 1953 at Kirksville, Missouri. He owned Lee and Max's Grocery in Lisbon, later working as a fork lift operator at Nash Finch retiring in 1987. They moved to Tipton in 2002 from Lisbon. Lee was a volunteer for the Lisbon Fire Department, a member of the Lisbon Masonic Lodge, and the Lisbon United Methodist Church. He was a league bowler for many years in Mt. Vernon. In 1989, he was the Grand Marshall of Lisbon Sauerkraut Days, helping in many ways with the festival. Lee enjoyed and was active in his Legion post. A sports fanatic, he loved the Hawks, Cubs, and Bears.
