LaCleda "Katie" Silvers, 87 of Anamosa and formerly of Mount Vernon went home to be in the arms of the lord, while holding hands with her family on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications of diabetes. Katie was born on February 3, 1922 in Manzanola, Colorado and graduated from Manzanola High School in 1942. She married Eldon Silvers Sr. on October 18, 1943 in Clovis, New Mexico and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1966. They then made their home in Mount Vernon in 1974. Katie was a housekeeper at Townhouse Motel in Cedar Rapids for many years and also worked production at Martin Merrietta. Katie retired after working many years as a babysitter for Pat and Sue Pisarik. She was a very spiritual person who, for many years, was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Mt Vernon. Katie is survived by three sons, Eldon Jr. of Anamosa, Arvid Bruce (Helen) and Arnold of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren Angie (Shane) Tonderum, Joshua Silvers, and Cleo Close. great-grandchildren Skylar Donaldson, Shayna, Kaycee and Dakotah Tonderum and Carmen Wolfe, sister Genevieve Fleming of Pueblo, Colorado and sister-in-law Ruth Silvers of Colorado. Kate is now forever united in death with her parents Frank and Unice Holcomb Cook, her husband Eldon, who died July 17, 1983, grandson Shane, her brothers and one sister. All of which took a little bit of her heart with them. Kate was a very loving, and giving wife, mother and friend. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family, and she took care of them until the very end. She cherished the many memories and good times with her family. Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel is caring for the family. Funeral services will be 10:30a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Mt Vernon by senior pastor Dr. Frank Seydel. Burial to follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009.
