Mechanicsville Esther Mabel Conrad Moir, 97 of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Mechanicsville Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services for Esther will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, at Mechanicsville First Presbyterian Church. Friends may call Thursday, after 10:30 a.m., at the church. Esther's burial will be, after dinner, in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Surviving Esther are many nieces and nephews. Preceding Esther in death were her parents, Henry and Louisa Ebert Conrad, husband Carl, two brothers, Wilbur and Arnold Conrad, and sister Luella Voigts. Esther was born August 29, 1912 near Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1930. After graduation, she was a bookkeeper for 14-years for Motor Inn Garage and Dettmann Implement of Clarence. On July 30, 1944, she married Carl Moir at her parent's home in Clarence. They farmed for 20-years east of Mechanicsville and in March of 1969, they moved to town. Esther continued working for the Eastern Iowa Livestock lunchroom. Esther joined the United Church of Christ, Clarence, March 28, 1926, and was baptized and confirmed there. She taught Sunday school for 44-years. On January 25, 1970, she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsville. Memorials in Esther's honor may be directed to Camp Courageous or Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids.
