Donald Washburn

October 8, 1935 ~ August 27, 2024

Donald Washburn, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Emery Place in Robins, Iowa. The family is being cared for by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Graveside Service will be held September 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa, followed by a Remembrance Celebration at the nearby Hanna Park Pavilion. Food and drinks will be provided. Don was born October 8, 1935, son to Everett and Ruth (Danford) Washburn. Don graduated high school and attended college at the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa. Don made his career in information software consulting for many hospitals. He married Marlene Joy Dye on August 16, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, recently celebrating 65 years of marriage. Don possessed genuine humility, abundant loyalty, and centered his attention on the love for grandkids, kids, and all family and friends. He was a talented magician who enjoyed cards, playing pool, cooking, golfing and listening to music; especially jazz and Hoagy Carmichael. You would always find Don singing along with the kids or 'finishing any job in 15 minutes.' He loved reading about history and contemporary politics. Everyone who knew Don, knew he could be direct but always had a good sense of humor and a full heart of genuine love. He wasn't hesitate to tell you if he thought he had a better idea. Regardless, always provided loyal and steadfast support. Don is survived by his wife and his children, Lon (Kimberly) Washburn, Lee (Lisa) Washburn, and Guy Washburn; grandchildren, Sarah Henderson, Candace (Owen Stevenson) Washburn, Rachel (Jon Simmons) Washburn, Amanda Washburn and Christopher Washburn; great-grandchildren, Lenore Henderson, Ozni Henderson, Hadley Simmons, James Simmons, India Cratton, and many loving family members. Don was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tod Washburn; sister, Dixie Lou Washburn; and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Washburn-Dykhuizen.
