Donald F. "Reilly" Reilly, 80, died Friday May 27, 2005 in his rural Mount Vernon home from a long illness. Ceremony of Remembering, 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The viewing will be Monday, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the chapel. Burial Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery with military rites. Surviving Don are his wife Margaret at home, three children: Tim (Wendy) from Cedar Falls, Patrick (Carol) of Lisbon, and Laurie (Brian) Gruhn of Solon, eight grandchildren: Shawna, Adam, Eryn, Colin, Meg, Kate, and Sean Reilly and Jamile Gruhn, three great grandchildren: Kimberley, Kaleigh, and Kayden. Preceding Don in death were his parents, six brothers: William, Edmund, Thomas, James H., Richard, and Daniel Reilly, and three sisters: Doris Kirst, Phyllis Wallum, and Anita Moore. Don was born June 24, 1924 at Cedar Rapids, the ninth child of James L. and Beatrice Simon Reilly. Don joined the U.S Navy in 1943, serving on a submarine attack ship for two and a half years in the South Pacific. After returning from World War II, he met and married Margaret Clark, April 7, 1951 in the Catholic Church at Lisbon. Don worked at various trades, retiring in 1986 after 30 years as a meat cutter from Gary's Super Value grocery store at Mount Vernon. Don was a uniquely talented, and creative man. He and Margaret designed and built their home where they have resided for fifty years. On that homestead, Don spent many treasured hours with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Reilly instilled in his children the spirit of debate and a constant desire to seek knowledge. Don in his later years enjoyed, Cribbage, woodworking, fishing, traveling, and reading.
