Albert Lewis Luerkens, 71, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Albert was born on September 21, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Heindrick and Opal (Kirkpatrick) Luerkens. He was united in marriage to Pauline Pearson on July 2, 1988, at Wapsipinicon State Park.

Albert worked in maintenance for Best Western Long Branch. He was always working on a project, whether it was fixing something broken or building something from the ground up. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Albert is survived by his wife, Pauline Luerkens; children, Kimberli Giesbrecht, Marvin (Malissa) Luerkens, Jessie Anderson, Nichole (Dennis) Hackett, Alex (Brittany) Luerkens, and Angela Luerkens (Dakota Hartman); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Charlie (Cindy) Luerkens.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Hunter Luerkens; and brother, Marvin Luerkens.

  3. Pauline, Chuck and family, I am so sorry to hear Albert has passed away. I have so many memories growing up with Albert,Chuck and Marvin. Family reunions, visiting Uncle Heine and Aunt Opal, doing our Sunday visiting with mom and dad, all great memories. When I lived on D Ave, Albert would always bring your daughter trick or treating and we would try to catch up a little. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and hope you will let us know when the memorial is. Thinking of all of you at this difficult time. Rita

  6. Our deepest condolences to your family. Albert was a very dear friend of my Dad’s and our family. He was like an uncle to me growing up. Truly so saddened to hear of his passing. Sending all of our love to your family. He was a great man.

  8. Albert was an amazing man. He and my mother had a love I can only dream of. We all wish that we had more time, but we did not. now is the time we should draw close to our family and remember that our time is short here on earth. I pray that I see you again one day, Dad. I will never stop missing and loving you. I hope that you’re flying high with the angels right now. I love you more than anything. No more pain Dad. I’m so sorry and I wish there was so much more I could do. I will keep your memory alive. Every year on your birthday, I’m going to have a barbecue just for you.

  10. Albert was a very important part of The Longbranch for more than 40 years, and I’m grateful for all the years we had the opportunity to know and work alongside him. He was an incredibly talented builder and maintenance man who seemed to be able to fix just about anything. He was always willing to lend a hand and help others figure out how to fix things, and his knowledge and experience were appreciated by so many. He helped build our hotel, our cabin, and our family home, so his work will continue to be a part of our lives for many years to come.
    Over the years, Albert and Pauline also shared many good times with our family, including the Halloween costume parties at The Longbranch. Albert had a great sense of humor, and he brought a lot of fun and laughter with him. He was well liked by the employees at The Longbranch, and he made a lasting impression on the many people he worked with over the years.
    Albert was dependable, hardworking, talented, and a good friend. He gave so much of his time and skill to The Longbranch, and he will certainly be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him.
    Our thoughts and condolences are with Pauline and his family during this difficult time.

  12. What a sad time and to lose such a good man . Hes no longer in pain and resting in peace. He was a amazing brother in law that anyone could ask for .   15. We had the pleasure of knowing Albert for over 40 years. He was an incredible maintenance engineer who never met a project he couldn’t fix. He played a critical role in the reconstruction of Cooper’s Mill Hotel following the 2008 flood as well as the day-to-day operation of The Longbranch Restaurant and Hotel.

    One thing we’ll never forget about Albert was his wonderful sense of humor. He always had a twinkle in his eye no matter what the situation. His ready smile will be missed in this world.
