  1. Verlin was one of the smoothest drivers I’ve ever seen and he was always level headed when driving. I use to love to watch him race because he never forced himself to the front, but he seemed to gradually pick them off until he was in the lead. Once in the lead it was over because he never made a mistake on the racetrack. Him and Al Frieden made a Great team. Rest in Peace Verlin. God bless you

  2. Like others have said, very smooth, always fast, and he didn’t make a big production out of any of it. His record did his talking and our company was proud to be associated with him in those good ole days! Condolences to the entire family from the Fleck family, Dudley Fleck

  3. VERLIN WAS ALWAYS A WELCOME SIGHT ON S.E. MINNESOTA TRACKS. WE RACED WITH HIM AT CHATEAU DODGE COUNTY AND ROCHESTER AND WERE PLEASED TO SEE HIM AT THE OLD TIMERS REUNIONS. HE WAS A QUIET,PLEASANT, THOUGHTFUL COMPETITOR AND WILL SET A GOOD EXAMPLE IN HIS NEW HOME.PAT, CLYDE, AND LYLE HINRICHS

  4. I only got to see him race a few times and only took one photo of him in 1980 as his career was winding down, but I knew of him well before then. I was surprised to find out a few years ago that he lived in Blooming Prairie, where I was was born. Prayers to his family.

  5. I always wanted to talk to Verlin so last fall me and wife stopped by his house after a car show .I went and knock on the the door introduced myself askd him if he had some time I would like to ask him some questions about his racing career. 2.5 hour later and seeing his world 100 and the Ed Janey trophies .I ask him for his autograph I went out to the car and got my air cleaner lid I think he thought that was kind of strange but he signed with the car21 and I got a picture with him . It as a great ending to a wonderful weekend with many great memories.

  6. I always looked up to Verlin, you could say he was my hero. He came and watched me race in Des Moines and we talked till 3 am. He kept his race car in my Grandma’s garage a few times. Whenever I think of Verlin I have great memories and it always puts a smile on my face. Rest easy my friend.
