Ellis H. Lambertsen, 92, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Woodlands at Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: Sunday, January 15, 2017 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation: one hour prior to service with time after the service. Surviving Ellis are his wife of 71 1/2 years, Mary Carol; three sons, David and Douglas of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dan (Marilyn) of Martelle; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Robert Plattenberger; and special nieces and nephew. Ellis Lambertsen was born April 3, 1924, in Cedar Rapids to Ruth and Harry Lambertsen. There he graduated from Franklin High School. He attended Iowa State University and joined the United States Naval Air Corps. On July 15, 1945, he married Mary Carol Plattenberger in Mount Vernon. Ellis farmed in the Mount Vernon and Martelle area for many years and was a member of the Martelle Methodist Church. He was an active leader in church and community organizations. Ellis enjoyed the many friendships gained from The Depot and later The Corner Cottage Bed and Breakfasts in Martelle, which he and Mary operated. Post retirement, they moved to Cedar Rapids and have been residents of Meth-Wick Manor for the past 6 years. Ellis was a member of the American Legion Post 13 in Anamosa. In 2015, he flew on the Honor Flight with his son, Dan. He loved to play cards and board games, especially Fast Track, with his friends at the Manor. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Travis; daughter-in-law, Charlene; and infant great-grandchild. Ellis was a dear husband, father and grandpa to his family. He, along with his beloved Mary Carol, was friend to all. They have been blessed to have lifelong friendships with people of all ages. The family offers heartfelt thanks to staff members of Meth-Wick Manor, especially those of the Woodlands, for their kindness and compassion. Memorials may be made to the Woodlands at Meth-Wick or a charity of your choice.

  3. Lambertsen Family, You have my deepest sympathy in the passing of Ellis.. I have known them for a very long time. I remem, ber the wedding in 1945 and that Mary Carol was the most besutiful bride I had ever seen.. My father was a very good friend to your grandfather Luther.. My prayers are with you all.

  4. Mary Carol and Family. I have tried to post a message to you, however I do not know if my message will show up 4 times or none. We would like to tell you how very sad we feel! Unlike MANY of your life-long friends, we have only known MC and Ellis for the past 6 years. In these short 6 yrs, we feel as if we have been in their family and belong to them!! They treated us as such!! While Ellis was the “voice of reason” and the guy you wanted to ask for advise, Mary Carol is the embodiment of LOVE!! We are fortunate to have them in our life! We will miss Ellis and feel especially sad for his grandchildren . He was a wealth of information and held you in such high esteem!! Prayers and Love, Sally and Scott Beltz

  5. Dear Mary Carol – I was saddened to hear about Ellis. You both have been such good friends of Mom and Dad over many years. I have fond memories as a child visiting the farm and visits from you to our home. You and Ellis hold a special place in my heart. Sharie and I will be praying for you and your family in the days ahead. Mike and Sharie Shupp
