Judy Spinler

July 7, 1949 ~ November 19, 2024

Judy Spinler, 75, passed away peacefully after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on November 19, 2024, at the Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, Iowa. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2024, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will occur at a late date at Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, Iowa. Judy was born July 7, 1949, daughter to Paul and Leola (Ingersoll) Harms in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from Wartburg College and the University of Northern Iowa. She was united in marriage to Frank Spinler on June 28, 1997, in Waverly, Iowa. Judy was heavily involved in volunteer work for Mercy. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, NEA , ISEA, and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Judy enjoyed traveling, cross stitching, reading, and taking cruises. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Frank; daughter, Cher (Kurt) Stephenson; grandchildren, Courtland "Cody" (Rochelle) Rawson; great-grandchildren, KK, Kae, Jade, Jamie, Bel, Garrett, and Oliver; sibling, Dave (Cindy) Harms; sister-in-law, Stephanie Harms; nephews, Eddie Harms, Harm Peter (Dolores) Witkamp, Roland (Varese) Witkamp, and Eric (Jen) Harms; nieces, Jessica Harms and Isabella Harms; dutch brother-in-law, Peter (Gerie) Witkamp; and great nieces and nephews, Loua, Bodhi, and Philou. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Edward Harms. In Lieu of Flowers Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Hospice House, Hiawatha, Iowa.

  2. I’m so sorry for your loss. I taught with Judy at East Elementary in Independence in the early 1970’s. She taught 3rd grade and I taught 4th. We were part of a singles group at that time who shared lots of good times together on the weekends. I have lots of fond memories of those early days of teaching and the friendships we made.

  5. I taught with Judy at East Elementary in Independence. She taught 3rd grade and I taught 2nd. Five young single teachers had a fun supper group getting together about every week for a potluck. We shared lots of recipes, concerns about students, and good times together including a roadtrip to Minneapolis. May she rest in peace.
