Richard Charles Metz, 82, of Marion, passed away peacefully Thursday,February 23, 2023, at Oldorf Hospice House Mercy, from Lewy BodyDementia. Celebration of Life: 1:00 ' 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023,American Legion, 625 31st Street, Marion. Burial: a later date, St.Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services of Cedar Rapids are caring forRichard's family.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet; two children,Julie Krejca of Marion, Ross (Marie) of Cedar Rapids; fourgrandchildren, Heather (Jess) Osborn, Cody Metz, Emily Metz,Keegan Krejca; two great grandchildren, Madison Osborn,Braydon Osborn. Richard also leaves behind many nieces andnephews.
Richard, the son of Walter Lester and Ona Flo Reavis Metz, was bornApril 3, 1940, in Tama Co, Iowa. At an early age, he moved with his familyto Vinton, Iowa. He graduated from Vinton High School. Richard was unitedin marriage to Janet Steepleton on May 23, 1959. He served in the armyas a Radio Operator and was stationed in Fort Gordon, Georgia. He washonorably discharged in 1964. The couple made their home inVinton, Waterloo, and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1966, where theymade their home for many years. Richard worked for DuffySchamberger, FMC, Grand Auto, and Ketelsen RV, where heretired in 2005. He loved spending time with his family,camping, and going on vacation. Richard adored hisgrandchildren and loved attending their activities. He was amaster of all trades and could repair anything. He also enjoyedbowling, golfing, classic country western music, watchingNASCAR, and was the most loyal Hawkeye fan ever!
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, and fourbrothers.
Richard's family would like to express their sincere gratitude tothe Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for alltheir love, care, and support they gave to Richard during his stay.

Richard was like a brother to all of us. If we needed advise or help or to moved,he was there for us and everybody in the family. A lot of family bowled In the same league on Saturday night at May’s. Janet and Richard, Tom and I were on the same team for 10yrs. We took turns going to each others house after bowling. We played a lot of games and had a balled together! We went camping, fishing and also went to Colorado on vacation. We had so much fun at all the family gatherings. All of us will miss and love you forever! Joanie and the Thom Fox Family
