June Frantz

Belva "June" Rogers Stewart Frantz, 92 of Mount Vernon, formerly of the Springville/Martelle area, died January 6, 2005 at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, from a lingering illness. Services 10:30 a.m., Monday, at the Martelle United Methodist Church, by the Reverend Jon Moss. Friends may call Sunday, from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, and after 9:30 a.m., Monday at the church. Burial Lisbon Cemetery. June's family includes a son Roger Frantz who died in 2000 (Dixie Frantz); twin-daughters Barbara (Jim) O'Connor of Helena, Montana and Beverly Kimm, who died in 1968 (Doug Kimm); a daughter Peg (Neal) Armstrong of Cedar Rapids; two sons: Dave (Shari) Frantz of Ely and Bruce "Ed" (Nancy) Frantz, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; ten grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. June's family also includes her deceased parents Marguerite and Roy; a half sister and two half brothers. June was born May 28, 1912, the adopted daughter of Thomas and Lillian Stewart in Springville. She graduated from Springville High School in 1930, received her teaching certificate from Cornell College in 1932, and taught at Norwood Country School near Martelle. One of June's favorite stories was that at the age of seven, while in Sunday school, she met the man she would someday marry. She and Bruce Frantz, married August 21, 1934, at six a.m., in the Martelle Methodist Church Parsonage. She and Bruce raised their family on the Stewart family farm near Springville. They moved from their farm to Cherry Ridge Retirement Center in Mount Vernon in 2003. Bruce died at the age of 91 on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Cherry Ridge. Memorials in June's honor may be given to the Martelle United Methodist Church, 107 South Street, P.O. Box 66, Martelle, IA 52305. Remembrances for the family may be mailed to David T.
