John Jay Billings, 65 of Fairfax and Marion, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away in his Fairfax home, Sunday, November 13, 2011. John's funeral will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m., November 19, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mount Vernon. His family will greet friends Saturday, from 9:00 a.m., until service time in the church. Surviving John in death is his, mother Beverly Billings-Cooley, Mount Vernon, daughter Michelle Billings, Ames, two sons Michael Billings, Cedar Rapids and Chad VonCords, Virginia, two sisters Sheila Moffett, Lisbon and Chris Yancey, Mechanicsville. John is also survived by his granddaughter Talia VonCords, San Diego, California. Preceding John in death was his father Don and sister Donna Billings Fishell. John was born November 9, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, the third child of Don and Beverly Moore Billings. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1964. John served with the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War. John married Sandy Cords, and Diana Boldt. They divorced. John was working in maintenance department at General Mills. He was due to retire at the end of November. John's passions were woodworking, hunting, fishing and reading Harry Potter.
