Dean Allen Conley, 56, of Mt. Vernon died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Morgan Funeral & Cremation Choices, Mt. Vernon, by Pastor CW Slaton. Visitation: 2-5 on Sunday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Survivors include his father, Melvin Conley; brother, Loren (Roxanna) Conley; sister, Linda (Dan) Gaines, all of Mt. Vernon; two nephews, Mike Conley of Mt. Vernon and Kurt Gaines of Iowa City; and a niece, Melissa (Brad) Beachel of Marion. Dean was born August 15, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Melvin and Dona (Busch) Conley. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1976. After high school, he spent several years running combines around the country during the wheat harvest. He then went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa. Dean worked for many years in telecommunications including MCI. He enjoyed collection toy tractors, especially John Deere's. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dona. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Vernon Community Schools District Foundation for the Save Our Fields project.2

  1. Dean was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. Over the weekend I found a picture of him sitting at a picnic table at the 2009 Conley family reunion.
