  12. RIP #34! Remembering many good times on road trips with the Mustangs and too many laughs to count in the bullpen. Always appreciated Nick’s friendship and sense of humor, a great teammate to have. He will be missed by all who knew him.

  13. Dear Rodriguez Family, I send you my hearfelt sympathy on the loss of your Nick. He was a patient of mine a time or two (as was your dad) and I found him to be an all- around great guy from a great family. Caring for him left an impact on me, and in fact, through the years I would think about him, and wonder how he might be getting along. (He is close in age to my children) So I was very sad to see the notice of his passing in the paper today; my husband and I will keep your family in prayer as you mourn the absence of Nick. I know he was very special to you all.
Sincerely, Carolyn Smith, retired St Luke’s RN (Orthopedics)

  16. It was our family’s pleasure to get to know Nick during his visits to Texas over the last fourteen years. He was a gentle giant whose kind heart always showed through, even when he tried to look serious. If he had an angry side, thank God we never saw it. We remember spending days with him when he visited at Mario and Elia’s home. The days would often include games of Marco Polo with the kids in the pool. Nick loved drinking beer or one of Mario’s killer Margarita’s. He loved eating Mario’s barbequed hamburgers or Eli’s salsa. We remember one Thanksgiving at Cowboy stadium when Nick and two of his friends from Iowa drove down for the game. We thought then that fans like them have to be crazy — we still think that now. Nick passed the football in the parking lot with Mario Junior, Chris, and Pablo. His love for his nephews and sports was obvious. Every day we had with Nick was a party. It is so difficult to believe that he has passed on at such a young age to be with his parents. Nick, we will miss you, and you will be in our prayers. Mario, Elia, Mario Jr., Chris, and the rest of the Rodriguez family, you will be in our prayers as well.

John, Gina, Valeria, and Pablo Johnson
