Michael Brian Millsap

August 25, 1962 ~ September 10, 2012

Michael Brian Millsap, 50, of Mt. Pleasant, passed into the loving arms of our Father on September 10, 2012. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a gathering of family and friends from 12 noon until service time. A beloved brother, he is survived by Michelle Millsap VanMarm of Cedar Rapids, Linda Millsap Bell and James Millsap, both of Oswego, Illinois. Michael served our country in the Army and Army National Guard 224th Engineer Battalion, and was also a loyal Walmart employee for seven years, where he had many friends and considered them his "2nd family". He will be dearly missed by his sisters, brother, co-workers, and friends. But we know he is now with our Lord Jesus Christ, so we celebrate his life and the time we had with him. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project, (support.woundedwarriorproject.org) in Michael's memory.

Guestbook

  1. Peace and blessings to your family in this hard time. Your new journey has just begun and in time we will all be together once again.

  2. Rest in Peace Friend. I wish we would have taken that trip we talked about years ago. You were always a fun person to be around.

  3. God Bless you Mike and prayers to your family, we had great time when we were younger, you were taken too soon. You will be missed. Love, Roger and Sue

  4. Mike was a very good man. I was lucky enough to work with him at Wal-Mart for a few years-while he was the supervisor over the 4-1 crew. He was delightful not only as a co-worker but as a friend as well. He always kept the mood light and fun and listened to the crew. I know he lent me an ear many times-litening to me rant and rave about one thing or another. Even after we no longer worked the same shift he still found the time to lend an ear when I needed. He was a true friend. Once I quit Wal-Mart I lacked the opportunity to see him very often, however when I did catch him working off and on-it was as though no time had passed and we would resume our normal banter. He was so partriotic and proud of his time spent in the military. Our country will always be in debt to his service and sacrifice. Mike was truly a good man in every sense of the word, and a great friend-he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends through this difficult time.

  5. Louis and Michelle and family, I send my deepest sympathy to you in the passing of your loved one. We never understand why our loved ones leave us at such a young age, but hopefully there is some relief in knowing he is in God’s home now and will be looking upon you.May God give you the strength to get through this time of sorrow. Remember your friends are here for you so call if you need anything.

  6. I will miss the vacations when you came to Cedar Rapids at our home. We went miniature golf, visit the Amana Colonies, discussed the Cubs(your team) and the White Sox (my team), politics (where we agreed), teasing Matthew, playing with our cats and talking about our jobs. I’ll never forget the fishing trip we took with your Dad (my father-in-law. I also remember how proud you where when you introduced us to your Walmart family. We will miss you so much. Our hearts are breaking but we will meet again. Love You

  7. Michelle, Linda, Scott – I’m so very sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. I’ve thought about him often over the years since we last spoke shortly after he left the service. I have so many fond memories of our years as best buds growing up on Craig Place, and in fact of all of you. My hope is for you and your families to have peace in what I’m sure is a very difficult time.

    Best wishes to you all.

  8. Mike, I miss you so much. You were one of the few that got me to smile, and keep chin up. Now I miss the one person that would check up on me if I was working Saturday mornings.

  9. I was so saddened to hear the news of Mike’s passing. My family’s hearts and prayers go out to the Millsap family. Although our paths went in different directions after high school, you and Scott were like brothers to me. You were my older brother and Scott was my younger brother. I lived alone in high school and you were like family. I’ll forever be grateful for your friendship. You were always positive and your laugh and smile were infectious. I know you had to touch so many lives. The good lord took you too soon. He must need your help up in heaven.

  10. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in the loss of Michael. He’s never forgotten and will be in your hearts forever!

  11. I am so saddened by the news of Mike passing. We have had so many good times including camping. We also liked to get a case of beer and watch “Faces of Death” – nobody said we were normal. I lost contact with Mike about 10 years ago but I think of him all the time as he was a large part of my life when we were younger. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike and his family. May he rest in peace. God Bless!!

  12. I’m so sorry for your loss, Michelle. I am so very thankful for Michael’s service to our country. May he rest in peace.

  13. My condolences and prayer to Mike’s family. We all went different ways after high school but there are many good memories. Mike was taken to young.
