Rex Al Meek

Rex 'Al' Meek, 61, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2009, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Reverend Dan Long. Survivors include two sisters, Martha (Steve) Long and Mary (Dino) Meek; two nephews, Shannon (Sandy, Al's special caregiver) Meek and Chad (Michele) Meek, all of Cedar Rapids; and several other nieces and nephews. Al was born January 28, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rex Allen and Phyllis (Robison) Meek Sr. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. Al worked in facilities maintenance for the Cedar Rapids School District for 18 years and Paetec for 11 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to his family.

  5. Rex was such a breath of fresh air – I don’t know anyone who was more dedicated to their job than Rex. He was a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

  6. My heart goes out to REX’s family and those that were close to him. We miss his spirit and his comic comments. I can tell he lived life to the fullest and has had no regrets. We miss you REX and will think of you often!
