William Houston Cummins

William Houston Cummins, 99, of Marion, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion, by Rev. Dennis Lowe and Rev. Jack Ray. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Doris; four sons, Burl (Ruth) Cummins of Owensville, Missouri, Harry (Priscilla) Cummins of Marion, Laverne (Marilyn) Cummins of Houston, Texas, and Gene (Carla) Cummins of Whitten, Iowa; two step-sons, Steven (Bonnie) Kapsch of Spokane, Washington, and Dale Kapsch of Marion; two step-daughters, Patsie (Terry) Dailey of Stronghurst, Illinois, and Kathy (Denny) Murray of Marion; and a sister, Esther Mae Rhoden of Joplin, Missouri. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; 18 step great grandchildren; and three step great great grandchildren. William was born July 8, 1913, in Stark City, Missouri, the son of Henry Houston and Lottie Mae (Carpenter) Cummins. On December 28, 1976, he married Doris Davis Kapsch in Kahoka, Missouri. William built radios for Collins Radio and later worked in mail delivery for Rockwell Collins. He was a charter member of the first Southern Baptist Church in Iowa. He was a model Christian for his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester Mac Cummins; daughter-in-law, Wilda Cummins; step-daughter, Gayla Keller; granddaughter, Janie Cummins; and grandson, William M. Cummins; and step granddaughter, Sabrina Dailey
