Wes Whitley

Wesley "Wes" Whitley, 82, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 in his Mount Vernon home after a long illness. Wes's Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Monday at the United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Monday, with a luncheon to follow the service. Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices is in charge of arrangements. Surviving Wes is his wife of 54-years Marjorie, three daughters Carla Whitley of Cedar Rapids, Ann (Mike) Wattleworth of Mount Vernon and Judy (Phil) Todd of Kansas City, Missouri, a son Mark (Heidi) of Lisbon. Wes is also survived by his grandchildren Mark Lucas Whitley, Lindsay Kula, Jonathan and Hannah Whitley, Holly Myers, Stacy and John Wattleworth, Ashley Sayre, David and Keith Riggins, his great grandchildren Adrianna Whitley, Connor and Brooklynn Myers, Cadence Kula, Vincent and Lillian Sayre and Carter Riggins, brother Frank "Pete" Maude of Kansas City, Missouri and sister Elsa Staley of Kearney, Nebraska and nieces and nephews. Preceding Wes in death were his parents William and Lola "Howell" Whitley, his identical twin brother Leslie Whitley, four brothers, an infant sister and a granddaughter Whitley Ann Wattleworth. Wes was born June 29, 1927 in Claycomo, Missouri. He was raised by his mother and stepfather Frank Maude. Wes was very patriotic, serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Wes was a member of the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge #112, and just received his 50 year pin. He retired from United Technologies-Carrier, Syracuse, New York, in a management position, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union #125. Wes served with the Mount Vernon City Council for seven years. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving in many different levels of scouting. Wes was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers and green plants, memorials in Wes's honor may be donated to United Methodist Church and Mount Vernon Lisbon Volunteer Ambulance Fund.   1. Dear Marge and all the family; We were so sorry to hear of Wes’s passing, while relieved that he is not suffering any longer. He was a good dad, husband, friend and neighbor. A good city council member too! And of course his beloved Cubs-he was such a good fan of the team, no matter the wins or losses. Steadfast in life’s trials and tribulations.
