  1. I have many wonderful memories of Vernie! No special one as they were all special. He was so much fun to be around. His quiet demeanor and that grin said it all. I am so so sorry for your familys’ loss.

  2. In the past few years Walt became a cherished friend to us. Walt and Jim shared countless Navy memories. They shared similar interests. Once Walt is in your heart… he’s there to stay. We feel so blessed to have had the time we did with him. All of our love and prayers Jim and Luwonna Brinkerhoff.

  3. Vernie you were one of my best friends. I sit here and remember all the great times and laughs we had at fire school. Being on the Mechanicsville fire department with you was an honor and a privilege. I smile remembering the house fire training when your mask melted due to heat build up and how lucky you were that you weren’t seriously injured. You coming down to the house and Nancy had just shaved the dog and was sitting in a pile of dog hair. You asked her what she was doing she told you “just shaved my legs” I thought you would fall down laughing so hard. Safe journey and no more worries my friend until we meet again

  4. Hi my name is Carrie,Walter was my neighbor. He was a great guy, I’m saddened by this news.
