Vivian Woods Stromer 87 of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday May 16, 2006 at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, from complication of Alzheimer's disease. Memorial services for Vivian will be 4:30 p.m., Saturday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon, where the family will greet friends after 3:30 p.m., Saturday at the church. Vivian will be buried in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Vivian was born at Saronville, Nebraska, January 4, 1919. Within a year she moved to Iowa in the Bagley, Scranton, Jefferson area and lived there until 1929, when she moved with her family to Sutton, Nebraska. She graduated from Sutton High School, attended Doan College for a year and, and graduated from business school at Hastings, Nebraska. Vivian worked for six years for Home Owners Loan Corp. in Omaha, and for the Social Security office at Rapid City, South Dakota. In 1948 she moved to Denver, Colorado and moved to Mount Vernon with her husband Walter in 1953, where Walt taught at Cornell College. They adopted two children; Anne, born in 1957, adopted in 1958 and passed away in 1982. Gary was born in 1959 and adopted in 1965. Gary lives with his wife Diana at Cedar Rapids. Vivian has three grandsons: Kyle and Josh living in Blue River, Wisconsin, and Dillon Rea of Cedar Rapids. Vivian was the daughter of Hugh and Dora Woods. Vivian is also survived by two brothers; Don Woods of Christie, Texas, and Milton Woods of Ayr, Nebraska, and a sister Glendive Woods of Montana. Vivian was active in various ways in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, in the League of Women Voters, and many civic and volunteer groups. Vivian was the eyes of her husband who was blinded in World War II. Walter always said, "she was loving, devoted, and had the patience of an angel." Vivian requests no cut flowers or potted plants. I’m not sure if the family of Vivian would know me, but I went to church with Vivian and Walt. They were both very special people. I always enjoyed being around them. Vivian will be missed by many people. My thoughts and prayer are with the whole family. God’s Blessings to you all!
