Virgil Frederick Peters, 82, of Lisbon, Iowa, died peacefully, Sunday, December 27, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital Hospice. Funeral Services 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Seeds of Faith Lutheran Church, Lisbon by Pastor Stephanie Malin. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Burial: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lisbon Cemetery.
Virgil was born November 6, 1933, in Saint Libory, Nebraska. His family moved to Iowa when he was nine. He attended Central City Schools. He was drafted into the Army and served two years in Korea. He married Sharon Hatch in 1956 and attended Iowa State using the GI Bill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeff Peters (Vicki) of Austin, TX; Julie Vislisel (David) of Cedar Rapids; and Jay Peters of Denver, CO; grandchildren include Dr. Joe Vislisel (Dr. Amy) of Chisago, MN; Dr. Jesse Vislisel (Jenna) of Iowa City; Dr. Jered Vislisel of Lindstrom, MN; Megan Wilkinson (Zachery) of Kyle, TX and Ryan Peters of Lexington, KY; great-grandchildren are Javen, Livia and Henry; sisters, Betty Sass of Cedar Rapids and Carol Light of Lisbon; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Peters of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Peters and a sister, Lois Butler.
Virgil was associated with Power Equipment Incorporated of Cedar Rapids and Hertz Farm Management of Mount Vernon.
He served the community through Optimists, the Lisbon School Board, and the Lisbon Economic Development Committee. He also participated in the Walmer Foundation for the development of the Lisbon football field and the Overview Committee studying the possible consolidation of Lisbon and Mount Vernon school districts.
His greatest passions were for Hereford cattle, John Deere equipment, bass fishing, and golden retriever dogs.
Memorials are suggested to the Iowa Junior Hereford Association or Seeds of Faith Lutheran Church.
