Valerie 'Val' Jones, 74, of Lisbon, Iowa, passed away, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Solon Care Center in Solon, Iowa after a long battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Celebration of Life: 2:00 ' 6:00 pm, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Whitey's in Lisbon, Iowa (Please consider wearing Bears, Cubs, or Hawkeye gear).
Valerie Jones was born on May 17, 1949, at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, the daughter of John L. and Pamela J. (Turner) Thompson. She was united in marriage to Mike Jones on Sept. 18th, 1970, in Washington, IL.
Val was a beloved member of the Lisbon community and was known as the 'Daycare Lady' of Lisbon, she ran her in-home daycare service for over 40 years, in that time she cared for and helped raise over 200 children, each child was loved as her own. It means something to those who get to call themselves one of 'Val's Kids.'
She was first and foremost a mother to her children but also a second mother to many. Val loved watching her children's athletic events and contests, and can say she never missed one, she was their biggest fan. Her love of sports extended to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, and her favorite team the Chicago Cubs!
Val had a close group of girlfriends, and they meant the world to her!
Val is survived by her husband, children, Joshua Jones, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Tyler Jones and fianc�� Zareen Rahman, of Kent, Washington, Nathan (Stef) Jones, of Lisbon, Iowa, and Rosemary (Logan) Felton, of Monticello, Iowa; grandchildren, Louis Jones, Braxton Jones, Lanie Felton, and Lenix Felton; siblings, John (Kathleen) Thompson Jr., and Brendan Thompson; sisters-in-law, Leslie (David) Hart, and Lynn Ahart; brother-in-law, Jeff (Steve Johnson) Jones; and honorary son, Dustin Gutierrez.
Val was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Karon Thompson; mother and father-in-law, Les (Phillys) Jones; and brother-in-law Gary Ahart.
The family would like to make special mention and give thanks to the staff and care givers at the Solon Care Center.
Memorials may be made to the Family, with contributions going to the Lisbon Community School Foundation and various other youth organizations.

I’m so sorry to learn of Val’s passing, but the poor girl suffered so long. I know what that is and it is so heart breaking to see your love go thru this. Val had the most beautiful smile, and she will be missed by so many, she was LOVED. Know you are in my thoughts and I’m sending my most sincere sympathy.
