Thomas Jones III, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, January 14, 2019, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Reverend Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Jones (Carmon Rote); and his Aunt Marlene.
Thomas Joseph Jones III was born February 1, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, to Thomas II and Geraldine (Etzel) Jones. He attended Regis High School. Tom earned his Master's in Microbiology from Iowa State University. Tom married Patricia Gerard in February 1972, at St. Pius in Cedar Rapids. They moved to Wichita, Kansas, for many years. He worked as a microbiologist for Quaker in Chicago, Farmland, and lastly AstraZeneca from 1980 until his retirement in 2000. They moved to Cedar Rapids, where Tom enjoyed hunting and target shooting, astronomy, planting flowers, doing yard work, watching animals in his yard, and watching WWII shows including M*A*S*H. Tom was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; infant children, Sarah and Shawn; and good friend, Jim Cody.
