Thomas Fettkether

December 13, 1951 ~ November 6, 2024

Thomas Fettkether, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. There will be a Celebration of his life 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30th, 2024 at VFW Post 788, 3240 Southgate Place Southwest, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services is caring for the family. Born to Robert and Marian (Schuler) Fettkether on December 13, 1951, Thomas Robert loved life. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Tom worked as a Control Supervisor at Cedar Rapids Water Pollution Control before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time in the home he owned over 40 years. He was a funny man, with a wickedly stupid humor. Tom loved his grandkids even more than his four wonderful daughters. He was an avid collector of guns, knives, and Star Wars memorabilia. Free time would find him out fishing. Tom is survived by his children, Carolyn (Steve) Walker, Christina Fettkether, Meagan (Shane Patterson) Fettkether, and Bridget Fettkether; grandchildren, Madyson, Mackenzie, Ayanna, Jacob, Asia, Haley, and Kameron; great-grandchildren, Mehlani, Hayes, Arbor, Adonis, Kairo, Sawyer, Reign, and Laylen; and siblings, Fred (Annie) Fettkether, Bill (Teresa) Fettkether, and Sharon (Kurt) Rothbart. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Carol Fettkether. A celebration of Tom's life will be announced at a later date, allowing friends and family to come together and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.

  2. I remember my grandpa always being pretty shy during events but at my Aunts wedding he reluctantly got up with the grandkids and danced with us in a circle and it’s always stuck with me because although he didn’t want to dance at first, you could tell it made him so happy to just be a kid again and it made our night to see him enjoying being around family.
