Theresa Meis

Theresa Joan Meis, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 21, 2026. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 4-7 p.m. with a presentation by the Mercy Nurse Honor Guard and a Sharing of Memories at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Private burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Daniel Meis, Diane (Joel) Avery, and Molly (Dennis) Knock; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers, John (Kay) Naso and James (Betty) Naso; sister, Mary (Dennis) Kelly; and many nieces and nephews.

Theresa was born on December 24, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Edna (Larson) Naso. She graduated from Immaculate Conception and went on to earn her nursing degree in 1955 from Mt. Mercy College Department of Nursing, beginning a lifelong career of caring for others. Theresa devoted more than 35 years to serving patients at Mercy Medical Center, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many.

Outside of her work, Theresa found joy in the simple treasures of life. She loved thrifting for unique finds and antiques, helping with estate sales, and cheering on the Cubs and Hawkeyes. Above all, Theresa’s faith and family were at the heart of her life. She cherished the time spent with those she loved and was a devoted, caring presence in the lives of her family and friends. Her kindness, faith, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Meis; and sister, Christina Naso Lacock.
