Sylvia Stephens, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. No services are planned. The family is being cared for by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services. Sylvia was born January 8, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter to Hubert and Mildred (Spicer) Stephens. Sylvia graduated from Kirkwood with her degree in nursing and worked as a nurse for various health care organizations. Sylvia learned to be a wonderful cook for her nine children. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, and dogs and cats. She was very independent minded, opinionated, and involved in politics. She loved spending time with her children and grand-children. She is survived by her children, Staci McGraw, Stephen McAtee, Jay McAtee, James McAtee, John McAtee, Sean McAtee, Clint Lunden, David Lunden, and Dan Lunden; 23 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Stephens, Jim Stephens, Lenore Matuzak, and Hubert Stephens; and many loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joanne Tubbs; and special friend, George Michael.
