Steve was born March 11, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Marion (Comp) Kohl. He graduated from Kennedy High School and Kirkwood Community College. On July 21, 1978, he married Sue Busch. Steve was a jack of all trades, the kind of guy who could fix anything. He spent many years as a small engine mechanic for P&K Midwest, retiring two years ago because of his health.
In his free time, you would always find Steve outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, and being at the cabin on the river. With his river hat on and a beer in his hand, he would cook delicious meals for his family. Steve jumped on anything with a motor, especially snowmobiles! When the game was on you would find him watching the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Sue's parents; and uncle, Bodie Comp.
We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Cedar Rapids
Steve was the cousin I was the closest to. Loved camping with Steve and Sue, especially when Steve was cooking! He made the BEST potatoes, in his cast iron pot, hung on the tripod over the fire. He could, and would, smoke any kind of meat. Always a smile, always a joke, always a laugh. And such a gentle soul. Though the pandemic kept us from seeing each other for the last many months, I will miss him very much. Rest easy Steve. Love you.

In life we have a few (good) friends and I considered Steve one of mine, from our time racing snowmobiles together to our long discussions over why Lynyrd Skynyrd was the greatest band ever we had some great times. God Bless my friend.
