Steven Fults

November 8, 1957 ~ June 1, 2016

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 1, 2016, Steven Wayne Fults was welcomed into the arms of his Lord, Jesus Christ. Steve was born November 8, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Edward and Katherine Fults. He attended school in Cedar Rapids until he left to join the US Army. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a mechanic. Steve worked in maintenance all of his life, including MAAX, Clipper Windpower, and Halal Foods. On May 8, 2010, he married Charlene Orr Sawyer at Palisades Kepler State Park. Steve lived life to its fullest and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and capturing creation with photography. Steve was a steadfast and faithful father to his boys and he loved his grandchildren well. He shared all he knew, helped and guided them, and in true Peter Pan fashion he embraced their joy and laughter with them. Steve spent many hours with family and friends around the woodstove in his garage (also known as the formal living room), wielding his quick sense of humor and recounting many tall tales. Steve leaves behind his beloved wife, Charlene Fults; two sons, Joseph (Kate) Fults of Cedar Rapids, and John (Tawyna) Fults of Marion; three daughters, Marie (Tom) May of Anamosa, Karen (Josh) Long of Coggon, and Jayne (Jeff) Milkovich of Marion; honorary son, Andrew Harrison of Cedar Rapids; his parents Ed and Kat Fults; brother, Robert (Sue) Fults; and sister, Chris Fults, all of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Visitation: 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Troy Mills Christian Church, by Pastor Tim Pridgeon. Burial with military honors: Troy Mills Cemetery. There will be a potluck luncheon in the basement of the church following the burial. The family invites you to bring a dish to share. Memorials are suggested to Lifeline Ministries, 1101 Oakland Road NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402, to help fund the kitchen project that Steve envisioned.

  1. I will always remember the time Steve and I went cat fishing and we had caught 6 to 9 cat fish and had them all on the stringer. I added another cat fish to the stringer and while I was putting the stringer back in to the water my other pole started taking line. I let go of the stringer and grabbed my other pole. I didn’t secure the stringer to the boat. When I realized I had just let the stinger full of cat fish sink in to the river I tried to grab it back and couldn’t grab it. Steve looked at me and said ” well we will have to catch them back”. He and I laughed about that for years. I will always remember he didn’t get mad at me he just let it slide and ribbed me every time we got together. I will miss the ” THE OLD MAN ” as I celled him but I loved to talk to him. See you in the next place we meet buddy. LOVE BILL STRANG

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of grief. I pray all of Steve’s loved ones are sustained by God’ love, peace and strength. And that all of you have wonderful memories to comfort you in the days to come.

  3. Ed, Kat, Ethan, Riley, Sawyer, sorry for the lose of your son and grandfather. Thoughts and prayers from our family to yours. Lori and Dan (Lafler ) Wallerich

  4. Char, Steve enjoyed life and loved you, the kids and grandkids so much. The obituary was nicely written and captured him well. I’ll never forget how free-spirited and fun he was at parties and for his participation on Bradley’s haunted hay rack rides. Your wedding was so beautiful. You guys shared a very special love and know that Steve will be missed by many. Love Rose & Tim
