Steven Joe Cleveland, 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Eagles Club in Cedar Rapids. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family.
Steven, a lifelong Iowa resident was born on October 5, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Joe and Sandra (Shireman) Cleveland. Steven was the oldest sibling and was a beloved son, brother, loving father, grandfather, and a wonderful friend to all who knew him.
He was a graduate of Prairie and Kirkwood College, worked a number of years with Zinzer, for Universal Engineering, was skilled as a welder, and worked as a union laborer.
Steven enjoyed listening to live music, going to car shows, riding motorcycles, bicycling, gardening, building or fixing things, thrift shopping and helping loved ones and neighbors. He loved traveling to Utah to visit his daughter and grandchildren who were his pride and joy and they enjoyed many adventures together. He enjoyed doing home renovations- building fences, a shed and even a garage.
He was known to do everything with pride and perfection and led by example teaching others his skills and knowledge. He'd set his mind to something and saw it through without cutting corners.
Steven is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Preston; grandchildren, Aspen Jade Preston and Olivia Rose Cleveland; and siblings, Gregory Cleveland, Curtis Cleveland, Dana Cleveland, Carrie Weir, Renee McCrary, and Heater Yates.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dean and Joe Cleveland Jr.
Steven fought a valiant battle in the end and remained positive to his last breath. He will be missed dearly. Forever remembered by all whose hearts he touched.

My oldest brother who taught me about the Beatles took me for trips on his Harley and always showed us his love for cars and family! I always looked up to my brother
There’s no describing the love I have for my brother, Steven. I’ll miss so many outings with him, just spending time with him was enough. As I told him, you were my first best friend. <3 I could count on him to rescue me whenever I needed it and he never complained or brought it up again, like I owed him a thing. His love and gratitude for life was evident in every way. Your cheerful smile. The love in your eyes. Your sense of humor. The way you knew every detail and memories in our life. So many things will just never be the same without you. I love you so much, Steven! I'll miss you so very much!!!
Sending condolences to the family. I’ve been a neighbor of his for the past almost 5 years and he was always a stand up guy. He will truly be missed around here.
Whether it was watching drag races on T.V., taking me to the Anamosa Hill Climb, hosting our family for 4th of July, or taking me to motocross races, Uncle Steven made sure that I enjoyed my time with him when I was growing up. The memories he gave me will never be forgotten and I appreciate all that he did for me and the rest of our family. At times he was a man of few words, observing and learning, which is a quality I can very much appreciate now as I grow older. Sending love from Colorado to the rest of our family, especially his daughter Jenny and his siblings. Rest in peace, Uncle Steven.
