Steve Kovell, Jr.

Herbert 'Steve' Kovell, Jr., 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Military honors by Marion American Legion #298 and the Iowa National Guard Honor Guard. Survivors include his partner, Trudy Foster; daughter, Linda Morgan and her children; step daughter, Sharon (Tom) Malloy; brother, Randy Kovell; and sister, Christy Kovell. Steve was born November 14, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Herbert Stephen and Ruby Cathryn (Welch) Kovell Sr. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. Steve was a chef for over 35 years and also managed many apartments. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved to gamble and have drinks with his friends at Gilligan's. Steve will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Terri Freel. Memorials may be directed to Gertrude Foster, 225 29th Street Drive SE, Apt.
