Shirley Bell, 80, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Silver Oaks Nursing Home, Marion.
Shirley was born on August 4, 1944, in Bell Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Stacy and Josephine (Jansen) Carter. She married Jerry Bell on August 29, 1964.
Shirley spent her life challenging herself to become her personal best, never complacent. She acquired such success after receiving her associate's degree in 1992 from Kirkwood Community College and later became a paralegal for Aegon, where she excelled.
Her life brought joy and happiness to whoever knew her. She enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, friends, and dog Mandy.
Shirley found serenity whenever she was outdoors working in her yard to create a beautiful landscape. She will be missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend but more importantly as one of God's children.
Shirley is survived by her children, son's, Lonnie D. Bell and Mark D. Bell, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Cody, Ashlee, Lexi, and Ellie; great-grandchild, Presley; and brother, Dean (Rita) Carter.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerry; brother, DuWayne Carter; half-sister, Veronica Flynn (Wilson), and Darrell Carter
We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Cedar Rapids
Deepest sympathy to the family. Shirley was a classmate at Keystone and enjoyed our luncheons out in Cedar Rapids before covid.
I have been friends with Shirley since our days at Linn County Abstract. Shirley was extremely proud of the work she did – as a real estate closer, a realtor, commercial loan assistant. She had style and good taste in her appearance and in decorating her home. We always had great lunches with great conversations through the years. Our friendship would have been 40 years in May. The road was tough the last few years and I am glad she had a wonderful family to take care of her. She will be missed. Blessings my dear friend as you enjoy your new heavenly home! Love you!
So sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. Sending our sincerest sympathy to her family and to Dean Carter and family.
