Sharon Mary Boyd, 79, of Mechanicsville, Iowa, passed away on February 4, 2026, at UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Hospital. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.

For the visitation, guests are encouraged to wear black and gold, Iowa Hawkeye attire, or your favorite team, in Sharon’s honor.

Sharon was born November 30, 1946, daughter to Joseph and Ethel (Hanlon) Sexton. She was raised on the family farm in rural Cresco, Iowa, youngest of seven children. She graduated high school from Canton, Minnesota, in 1964 and was united in marriage to Robert Boyd on December 28, 1965, at St Agnes Catholic Church, Plymouth Rock, Iowa. Bob and Sharon settled in Mechanicsville in 1977, owning and operating town grocery stores for twelve years and she retired from Alliant Energy in 2009.

Sharon cherished her family above all else. She was an avid reader who enjoyed long walks, caring for her plants, baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, and gathering with family. She loved traveling—especially to casinos—playing slot machines, euchre, and solving crosswords and trivia. She was also a devoted fan of Hawkeye Athletics, especially Caitlin Clark.

She was a longtime member of St Mary’s Catholic Church and also a member of the Guild Sew Sew Club.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob; sons, Brian (Shelly), Chris (Angie), Anthony, and Danny; grandsons, Nick (Kayla), Parker, Koby, and Caden; great grandsons, Brody, Cash, and Kane; sister, Monica (Roger) Malli; brother, John Sexton; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Earl, James, and Jerome; and sister, Shirley (James) McConnell.

Memorials may be made to Mechanicsville Library or St Mary’s Catholic Church.

Guestbook

  1. I love this picture of Sharon! I will cherish our trip to Ireland. Me and Sharon, Bob and Shirley had such a wonderful time. What a bond we developed!

  2. Tony, Dan, and Family,

Although I didn’t know Sharon, I do know Tony and Dan pretty well. I think a lot of you guys and I can tell by the way you interact with others that you were raised right and your Mother played a big part in that. I offer my thoughts and prayers to you all at this difficult time. I will pray for comfort for the entire family.
