Ruth Anne Hargin, 92, of Marion, passed away March 4, 2016, at Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service at 4 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Ruth Anne was born September 30, 1923, in Hopkinton, to Thomas and Anna (Oswald) Bader. She was raised on farms she loved in rural Jones County and graduated from Martelle High School in 1942. She married Harold Hargin on April 16, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She gave birth to their daughter, Gerilyn, on February 9, 1964. She was a member of the American Diabetes Association, the ARC of East Central Iowa where she enjoyed the Mother's Club and monthly luncheons, and was a strong supporter of Discovery Living and Camp Courageous. Ruth Anne was a strong, independent, courageous woman, and champion for those with disabilities. She was a lifelong, devoted Catholic, as well as a Hawkeyes and Cubs fan. She is survived by her brother Ray Bader of Casper, Wyoming; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close circle of friends. Ruth Anne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold in 1982, and daughter Geri in 2010; brothers, Robert, Donald, and Ralph; sisters, Helen Strother and Genevieve McShane. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Discovery Living, Camp Courageous, or ARC of East Central Iowa.
