  5. Condolences!

My best memories of Rudy were wrestling (of course!). Rudy was a senior when I started wrestling as a freshman. Having played basketball in junior high, this was quite a transition, as you can imaging. Many, too many, times throughout the season during practice in the old art room, Rudy would come over and throw me on the mat…it was not a takedown, it was a throw. It was such a pleasure having my face smashed into the mat. At times, basketball became once again appealing. Then he would proceed putting his “Rudy tight waste” on me and torquing the lower half of my body what seemed like180 degrees from my upper body. Those of you that wrestled Rudy know EXACTLY what I am talking about. And then the finish blow – he would make me say that I was a woosie (although it was the “P” word but the Guest box just censored me!). 🙂 Are cousins supposed to treat each other like that? And I never asked him that, but I am certain his response would have been “Oh! So sorry Doug. It will not happen again!” I was a lot smaller, but periodically we wrestled, and, on the feet, he pounded your head. A boxing match. And then you were on the mat. He always told me you have to create a distraction before you can get a takedown. He distracted VERY well!

I have not seen Rudy for years but when I was back in Lisbon periodically, it was always a pleasure running into him.

Good man. Will be missed. No candle posted in my message. Really Stewart/Baxter? Where is an image of dirty, sweaty, stinking wrestling shoes? Ontisuka Tigers back in the day – now Asics! No offense Stewart/Baxter – you did mom, dad, and Tam’s funerals. Great work.

  6. To the Moreland Family. Your Father and I were friends when I attended the 5, 6, and 7th grades at the Olin school. During those years we would fish in the stream that flowed through our farm. We also played on the equipment at the school’s playground. Following the 7th grade may family moved to a farm near Martelle. I graduated from Martelle HS in 1955 and Iowa State in 1959. While I had little contact with your Father after moving to Martelle, I want you to know those years we were friends have always bring fond memories. Please know that I am praying for the family.
