Roger Allen Steil Sr.

Roger Allen Steil, Sr. 62, of Hiawatha, died Friday, October 12, 2012. Memorial Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Church of the King, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Don Glazier. Roger and his wife, Sally will be laid to rest at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, following the memorial service. Big Roger (Papa Bear) would have wanted everyone to come in casual clothing. Survivors include his sons, Roger Steil Jr. and Clayton (Kelly) Steil; brother, Steve Steil; sisters, Rhonda Pins, Linda Cullor, Jolene Burken, and Gwen Edwards; grandchildren, Sheila, Sonny, Zach, Ysabell, Annabell, Mirabell, and Sarabell Steil; and a great grandson, Hayden. Roger was born June 2, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Edward and Jean Ann (Coyle) Steil. On September 10, 1969, he married Sara 'Sally' Steil in DeKalb, Illinois. Roger worked for Big Timber in Vinton, Iowa, for 15 years. Roger and Sally found great enjoyment being with their many grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Edward Steil Jr. Memorials may be directed to Church of the King, 3750 F Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405.

Rog, you will be missed for a million reasons, I grew up with you in my life, its amazing how we change and grow. you were funny to me as a kid, and as I grew came to appreciate your sense of humor. But most importantly what I will carry with me is the way you were as I was an adult. I watched you do things for Grammybear that made her happy, little things like help her with her flowers, digging holes, moving rocks. It feels selfish of me to miss you when I know you just wanted to be with her. We will remember you with love in our hearts always until we can be together again.
