On Tuesday May 6th, the Reverend Doctor Randolph Dale Nord joined the angels and archangels worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ. Memorial Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be private for the family. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Randy was born October 2, 1954, to Jacob and Nettie (Quiring) Nord in Bakersfield, California. He confirmed the faith granted to him in his baptism in February 1978 and was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in 1982. Randy served parishes in Nebraska, Ohio, and central Illinois before beginning his ministry as a pastoral counselor in Cedar Rapids. Randy is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lois (Denninger); and his sons, Martin (Julie), Micah, and Aaron (Peggy). He was blessed by the birth of his first grandchild, Ruby Mae Anne to Peggy and Aaron on April 25th, 2014. He is also survived by his brothers, James (Joyce), George (Inge), and Tom (Nora); and many nephews and nieces. Randy's care and concern for everyone he came in contact with will be missed. Anyone who knew Randy knew his big love, his big hugs, and his big laugh. We rejoice that Randy can eat to his heart's content and forever be singing at the top of his lungs with the rest of his heavenly family.

I will always feel honored that I was able to sing with the Nord family a few times. That was a real treat. Let me know if you (Lois, Micah) need anything.

But mostly we will remember him always for his great love for His Lord Jesus and as an encourager of faith. May The Lord Jesus be your comfort at this time. We look forward to laughing and singing with him in Heaven. Peace.
Vacancy Pastor
Pastor Nord came to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon when we were at a very low point. He was able to help us heal from the wounds inflicted by the previous Pastor.
I was the organist and we would meet to select music for the Church Services. We’d go into the office and we would get to talking about other things (Are you surprised?) and soon we would be laughing and you know what a BIG laugh he had.
We’d even get off topic!!!!
During those sessions, I was finally able to get rid of some weight I had been carrying for some things concerning the music at St. Paul that the former Pastor had put me through.
He helped me gain peace and forgiveness for the other Pastor. He asked me why Jim and I hadn’t left the Church and I replied” We were here before the other Pastor and we’ll be here after.
Our granddaughter, Miranda Schweer absolutely loved Pastor Nord and was so glad when he was allowed to finish up the Confirmation process at Bethany.
When Jim had his stroke on February 28, 2011, I called Pastor Nord to come to the hospital because Jim was so scared, he’d never been a patient in a hospital. He came and was able to calm Jim. I was on the way home, I had never stayed on the farm alone overnight in 49 yrs. or driven at night for about 5 yrs. Well, with The Lord’s help, I got over those things and spent a restless night at home alone. We owe a lot to Pastor Nord, he was a good friend. Jim and Susan Schmidt
Our deepest sympathy to all of the Nord Family as you grieve the loss of Pastor Randy. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss him,and his caring,joy-filled spirit! He was truly a wonderful representative of the love of Christ Jesus, and now Pastor Randy is in His presence! Well done good and faithful servant!
Sorry for your loss of a Beautiful, Loving guy full of joy. Randy will be greatly missed.
I sang bass next to Randy in the Seminary Kantorei.
May the peace which only God gives, through faith in Christ Jesus, be your comfort in this time of loss.
Thankful for his person and ministry, I will always remember and appreciate Randy’s warmth, humor, and collegiality. God bless with peace and hope all of his friends, family, colleagues, and clients.
I’m so sorry to hear of his passing, he was a genuine example of a great Christian. I always enjoyed speaking with him when we would bump into each other at Barnes and Noble books. You are in my prayers.
We have truly lost a beautiful man so full of love for his Lord. I so will remember his stay with us at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon as our vacancy Pastor. He touched so many people with his loving smile, laugh,
wonderful Bible studies, preaching the Gospel in it’s truest form and always having time to talk when I needed him. He asked me one day if I would tie his shoes and I so cherished our friendship. He will truly be missed by so many in so many special ways.
My deepest sympathy to his loving family.
We loved pastor very much, through 2.5 years of counseling with him, we were able to save our marriage and continue on peacefully with our lives as a married couple. Bless you all and our prayers are with you
Randy was a frequent visitor to our store and we all got to know him and his family over the years. We are so sad to hear the news and offer our condolences to Randy’s family.
Heaven has gained a great guy, Iam so sorry for your loss
As members of Bethany, we came to know Pastor Nord through his sermons. He also baptized our youngest child. He was a sweet man, with such a kind smile and caring spirit. Prayers to the Nord family during this difficult time.
I have been out of town and just read about Randy’s death today. My prayers and sympathy are with you. I am a pastoral counselor at Prairiewoods and met Randy several years ago. He had a great love for you, Lois, and your family.
Lois and family,
You have my sympathy that Pastor Nord has gone before you, his body falling asleep in the Lord, but his spirit victoriously awaiting the final Resurrection and your reunion with him in heaven.
I have many happy memories of Pastor Nord from St. Paul’s Manito, during a very happy time in my life.
May the Spirit give you comfort in the time of grief and also assurance that the death of His saints if precious to the Lord.
Eric
Dear Nord family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I feel so blessed to have known Randy both as “Pastor Nord” and as a personal friend. Kaleb remembers playing with the toys in Randy’s office. I will always remember his infectious smile, hearty laugh and booming bass voice. He was truly a faithful, caring Christian man.
God’s blessings!
Swenson family
Lois & boys – we were so shocked and saddened to hear of Randy’s death. And like so many others leaving condolences, we remember him for his smile, his infectious laughter and his love for the Lord, his family, and those he served. You have our deepest sympathy.
Lois and family, So sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers are with you all.
Dear Lois,
I tried to send you a card but it was returned to me in the mail – unable to forward. I was very sorry to hear that Randy passed away. Can you send me your correct address? We are keeping you in our prayers.
Pastor Nord was hands-down one of the most amazing men we have ever met. God knew what He was doing when He called Randy into the ministry. We are heartbroken for his family, but rejoicing he now resides with Jesus. Sending the family much love.
My deepest sympathy to all of you. I remember Randy’s strong voice as part of the Glory Notes at Zion. Your family is still a part of Zion and I am blessed to have known you. My prayers are with you, but the comfort of knowing that Randy is with the Lord and you will all be together again some day is a blessing. God’s grace be with all of you.
To the family– I was thinking of Randy today and remembering him fondly. He was a close cousin growing up, and our mothers loved each other dearly. I am so thankful that, though our planned visit was not to be, we were able to connect significantly through email. May the Lord be close to you as you go through these days. Jane Quiring
I just now discovered that Randy is gone. I grieve with you in your loss, even though it is almost five years ago. I am sorry I didn’t know sooner. There is an empty place in the world left by him.
