Raymond Thompson, 43, of Garner, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Fort Des Moines Park, Shelter 2, Des Moines, Iowa. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids is caring for the family.
Survivors include his children, Selena Dameron, Zoe Baker, Josiah McCrory, Isaiah Dykstra, Franky Christeson, and Jaxxon Thompson; siblings, Billy (Stephanie) Allison, David Cox, Melissa Sanders, Corissa (Kenneth) Wade, and Mark Johnson; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Raymond Joseph was born to David and Toni (Cox) Thompson on September 12, 1979 in Des Moines. He helped the larger Methodist Church with mission trips around the country, and shared his faith through his prison ministry. Ray loved the outdoors and football, especially rooting on the Chicago Bears. He was sarcastic and fun. Above all, Ray loved his kids unconditionally.

Ray, you had me in tears many times around the tables. Now in tears cause we won’t see that smiling face or end the evening with one of your hugs. Ray I will never forget the time you and I went out to the strip club with our girls and when we were walking out those two guys were talking shit and you knocked both them out at the same time one with each hand while I was beating the DJ’s ass for putting hands on Leah next thing I know your pulling up In the car yelling the cops are on the way let’s go he has had enough so I jumped In the car and we went to Perkins to get something to eat and who comes walking through the door C.R.P.D. all 8 of them walked past our table and then came back cause them punks rated on us and pressed charges and we both went to jail . Dam bro can’t believe that your gone iwish you would have made it over to see me befor I moved to Florida. RIP BRO iam sure you and Aaron are up there kicking g it in the smoking section I know you guys will be up there keeping us safe down here TIll we meet again
