Ray Edward Overman, Jr., 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, by Rev. John R. Flaherty. Visitation: 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, with a vigil service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial: St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; children, Stephen (Joyce) Overman of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nancy (Tom) Van Zee of Pella, Iowa, and Terri Overman of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Shanna (Ben) Kadlubar and Chase Van Zee; great grandchildren, Lucinda and Corbin; and brother, Robert (Bernita) Overman of Savage, Minnesota.
Ray was born October 24, 1926, in Amery, Wisconsin, the son of Ray and Ruth (Siver) Overman Sr. After his parent's deaths in 1930, he came to Lisbon and was raised by his grandfather, Bert Siver. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1947. Ray proudly served in the US Navy from 1944-1965. On April 23, 1949, he married Marilyn Woods at Mare Island Naval Chapel in Vallejo, California.
After his naval retirement, he returned to Mount Vernon and worked for SuperValu, Mount Vernon Schools and then was a driver for Plaza Auto Auction for 11 years. Ray was a member of Cyclops American Legion Post 109 in Lisbon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ruth Overman, Margaret Swafford, and Betty Hoffman.
Memorials are suggested to Cyclops American Legion Post 109, Camp Courageous, or the charity of the donor's choice.

I am so sorry for your loss! Ray was such a nice guy, he always had a smile and a joke when ever we would see him in the grocery store. I know he will be greatly missed! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
