Phyllis Ciha

Phyllis Rachael Ciha, 87 of Lisbon, Iowa, died at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, Iowa, on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Phyllis was born on November 19, 1934, on the family farm, northeast of Center Point, daughter of Roy and Anna (Nass) Bowers. Her formal education was in a one room school. She graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1952. Phyllis studied one year (1952-53) of elementary education at State Teachers College, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On January 23, 1954, she married Howard Ciha in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Phyllis was a loving wife, and absolutely loved the outdoors and life on the farm, and sometimes was referred to as the Sheep Lady at many livestock auctions. She provided excellent gardening advice and had extensive knowledge of native plants and animals. She also devoted 10 years of her life as a girls' 4-H leader. Phyllis is survived by her brother Ralph (Winona) Bowers of Martelle and many nieces and nephews, along with other survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard (2018); parents; sister, Marjorie Bowers; brothers, Paul, Dean, Russel, and Claire Bowers. Funeral will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, 715 10th Avenue SW, Mount Vernon, Iowa, with visitation 9-11 a.m. All guests are respectfully expected to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Private burial at Lisbon Cemetery. Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service via livestream. Please find the livestream link on the Tribute Wall.
